I'd spent the morning across in the north east today and as always, I took along my walking gear just in case I managed to get back a decent time, and if the weather was agreeable I could fit in a quick walk. Thankfully everything fell into place and I enjoyed a walk up Barrow and into Newlands Valley.

Braithwaite village.
The top of Barrow can be seen in this picture; above the shop. There are a few different options to get to Barrow from here, one is to walk between the rows of buildings and head up to High Coledale first. The route I took today, carries on to the left of the picture and then up to Braithwaite Lodge farm.

Heading up to Braithwaite Lodge you get a view over the rooftops of the vilalge and across to the Skiddaw Fells.

I guess they ran out of red paint to do the wheels on the trailer.

In no time at all the view opens up to show Keswick, Latrigg, part of Blencathra, Great Mell Fell, Clough Head and the Dodds.

A little higher up and around to the left you can see Bassenthwaite, Binsey and the Skiddaw Fells.

At first glance this may look like a confusion of paths, however:-
The one on the left of the picture is the Stonycroft Gill path.
The one in the centre of the picture is a continuation of the above and leads to High Moss.
The one going up hill on the right takes you up Stile End.
The one straight ahead through the rocks joins up with the Stonycroft Gill path.
The one going off to the right takes you down to High Coledale and Braithwaite.
The faint one running through the bracken is the one I followed to Stonycroft Gill.
