A lower level walk seemed more appealing to us than a walk onto any of the fells today. And given that it was mid week, we thought it would be nice and quiet and just right for a walk which included Watendlath and the middle section of Borrowdale. These are areas which can become over crowded at weekends during the summer months, but the amount of people we passed this afternoon was more like the middle of winter.

Ashness Farm.

A surprisingly clear view from surprise view. It's just a shame the sun disappeared shortly after taking this picture and failed to come back until we were somewhere past Rosthwaite later in the walk.

It looks like someone has pulled the plug out and Watendlath Beck slowly emptying.

It was nice and quiet at Watendlath this afternoon with the only signs of like being a couple of ducks a farm dog and a few people having something to eat, , , and us two.

A look back to Watendlath as we start the walk up to Puddingstone Bank.

Just after taking this picture the couple in front of us turned round and asked the "are you David Hall" question. We then went on to have a ten minute chat about walking, routes, where we've been today Etc. It's always nice when people recognise us, so as I said at the time, thanks for asking if I was who you thought I was.

A little further down stream and the river takes on a different look altogether.

Walking into Grange where thankfully the cafe was open so we could buy a couple of ice creams.

I don't think it's much further, but rather than walk alongside the main Borrowdale road, we decided to head towards Manesty and then cut across the end of Derwent Water. And because the sun was back in attendance it was lovely and hot along here.
