Wharton Tarn

On a bright summers day when the trees and the surroundings are showing off their greenery this is actually quite a nice-looking place, although these pictures don't really advertise that fact.

The tarn is found in what can only be describes as "the middle of a field" just north of the B5285 near High Cross. Wharton Tarn is also referred to as High Cross Tarn, and in addition to these names, at one time the tarn was called "Jenny Greenteeth Tarn" after an old woman who is said to haunt the tarn.
